Why is it that this picture and caption puts me in the mind of Romney’s tax returns?

I’d feel safer hunting with Obama than Cheney. I also feel the Constitution remains safer, despite some “blips”, with this administration as opposed to Cheney/Bush’s “unitary presidency” and their rubber stampers at Justice, who had no respect whatsoever for the document. (Or subsequent laws)

Same dumb joke in two cartoons. I know they all get directions from Fox News, they could at least tell them to come up with new gags. (I’d trust Obama with a gun much more than Bush or Cheney. Obama is the only one who would know when NOT to shoot.)

The cartoons are based on the photoshop of W looking through the wrong side of the binoculars.
    .
It was funnier the first time, because it was the first time. Second time is sloppy and lazy.

Yeah, I doubt he could find the trigger!

So, is there anyone that really believes that the provided photo was not just a staged photo op? It sure does seem odd that prior to this opportunity, shooting guns of any kind by the president has never been mentioned. We know all presidents do this in an attempt to portray to the populous “hey look – I am just like you”, but this president seems to bring it to an art form.

    @NoCents

    A staged photo op…
    .
For what? Why would you stage such a photo op when the people you would be reaching out to with said photo would do naught but ridicule you for reaching out?
    .
Does it buy him any cred with me (a supporter that wishes the president would move to the left a lot)? No, not really. It doesn’t hurt his cred and I’m glad he is a guy who is always open to learning something new. And if I were a guy in, like, the world’s most overstocked private rec room and there were guns to shoot too, I’d get around to shooting some too.
    .
I used to play golf, for fun. I remember once off the tee the golf devotee right before me whacked the ball and said excitedly, “That’s the best drive I’ve ever made in my life!” Then I drove my balljust past where his ball was. Point being that I was fairly good for a guy who never played. I gave the game “up” (I never really “took it up”) because so many of the guys that I started to play with, “for the fun of it” became obsessed with the game and soon didn’t want to play with a guy who was playing it “Just for fun.”
    .
I suspect it is somewhat the same with shooting; most who play, go on to become “Gun Nutz!” at least for a while, until it gets hard to get any better, then they move on to a new passion. And a few say “Yeah, that’s fun, I understand how you could become obsessed, what else ya got?”

    For what indeed!

First, it was reported that he previously said “we do skeet shooting all the time”. The photo is intended to prove that he shoots skeet “all the time”.

Second, as I stated in my post, pols always want to portray the image that they are an every day person “just like us”. “Hey, I’m just like you so I will do things that you like” is the message they want to send.

Third, they are anxious to portray the president as being gun friendly – regardless of what his real inclinations may be. That will serve to calm down the gun nuts or at least the gun owners.

The president does not need to buy any cred with folks who already support him – and anyway, they are smart enough to see exactly what he is doing with the photo.

Your golf story was interesting but I don’t see what that has to the photo – he did not say “I used to shoot”.

It also seems strange that the photo had to be declassified in order to be released. Can some anyone give us a clue as to why such a photo would have been classified in the first place?

As with every president, everything starts out at “classified” and moves it’s way down the security ladder from there. If you need a clue as to why that is, then you haven’t been paying attention for the past 100 years or so.
    .
The term “Red Tape” comes from the ribbon with which George Washington wrapped his important correspondences with congress. It has always been thus but it has been ever so much more since Nixon, and even more so since 9/11.
    .
The photo proves that President Obama doesn’t shoot skeet “All the time” in that the side smoke clearly shows that this is a beginner gun. If it were a photo op to show “all the time” then they would have used a more advanced weapon.
    .
And that’s OK. What is “all the time” to one person might be once a month (I play golf every time it strikes my fancy, last time was a couple of years ago). While “all the time” for a golf nut is three to five days per week during the golf season.
    .
“… regardless of what his real inclinations may be.” why add that? Why must you assume he has different “inclinations?” Why can’t there be the existence of people who do enjoy shooting a gun and yet agree that there ought to be a much more rigorous regulation of those guns? (BTW, my solution to the Gun Control v. Gun Rights issue is completely different from the usual “Pushme Pullyou” of the so called “debate”, so don’t assume I agree with either side, or that I disagree with either side).
    .
As to your second point… Yeah? And? This is news to who? This is wrong, because…? You know he’s not, because…?
    .
Raise your game NoCents. You can do it. I cents a higher intellect behind your writing. Craft your posts as if you are talking to people of a high intellect, who already understand the first three levels of the situation. Those are the people here who are the most interesting to converse with (whether you agree with them or disagree). People that you have to explain the basics to aren’t worth the time that they suck out of your life.

Your puzzling condescending attitude coupled with the close-minded content of your reply lead me to believe that further discussion of this topic with you would be pointless.
