Detail… what less articulate mechanics call the rear of the plane.

@ dukedoug, your comment made me think of the old “Hinney Wine” commercials I heard back in the early 80s. “Don’t know what to get Day for Father’s Day, Get him some hinney, he’ll love it” or Try a little hinney, it goes good with anything. Crude but funny. Don’t think there was ever any actual wine by that name, just a gag by the radio station.

I think the joke is unfortunate coming after the crash where the tail did break off and a few people were killed (including the one run over by the fire equipemet0.

A couple of years ago on a Boston radio station, I heard an ad for a brand of wine called "Fat (rhymes with “plastered”)". I thought THAT was a gag, too…until I saw it advertised in the paper.

I think it would’ve been more funny to say “The cost of
    dermoplasty to the hindquarters”

Perhaps, but there is always a disaster or simply sad situation going to come up somewhere which can be tied to a comic strip.
I used to cut out comic strips I found especially humorous. When I wrote a snailmail (the only kind there was at the time) I would review it and realize there was alwasy something in it which I could tie to one of the comics so I would enclose it with the letter.
It got rid of some stuck-up ladies for me.
    It’s all good.
