Good to see a few readers who know who Foghorn was (is?).

One of the best. Last I saw of him, he and the dog were getting on in years and sitting on the porch, reminiscing about their past adventures, with grandkids of both around.

I think that today’s strip committed a FOWL.

Ironically, Foghorn Leghorn far outlasted the memory of the radio character from whom he was inspired.
There was a character named Sen. Beauregard Claghorn on the Fred Allen radio show, who sounded very much like Foghorn. He always uttered Southernisms and knocked anything Yankee.
There’s a rendition of Claghorn in the Bugs Bunny cartoon, “Rebel Rabbit.”
“This hare, I say, this hare, must die!”

There was another cartoon character similar to old Foggy, “The Hunter”, he was a dog detective.
.
As for Sen. Claghorn, when ever he heard “Dixie” he would proclaim “the national anthem”

Several cartoon characters were based upon real live actors or prominent people of the time.

He’s a rooster, not a roaster
Foghorn Leghorn survives in the new Looney Toons currently showing on Cartoon Network.

Both Claghorn and The Hunter were voiced by Kenny Delmar, one of our lesser-known voice talents – but no less talented – along with Daws Butler, June Foray and Paul Frees.
