At least P.C. Braithwaite didn’t go into the canal as well. (Now call for additional help, P.C. Braithwaite.)

Obviously, PC Braithwaite ,sober, doesn’t follow instructions, whereas, Andy Capp, drunk, does. So who get the blame ?

Andy looks more buoyant than conscious, let’s put it that way.

I’m supposed to fly out in a few hours to do a little hotel assessment, so I’ll be in an out of touch through Sunday.
It’s almost 2:00 AM and I’ve got to leave by 5:30 AM to get to the airport in time for my flight, so I’m going to try to get a little sleep.
BCNU’all.

Andy seems to fall in that Canal like Clockwork:

….of a broken one
Pulled, bobbed, or crawled out, dependable Andy makes it Home:
just not always unnoticed
In fact, it’s one thing You can always count on:
andy getting £ to pay for more pints

This scene likely happened just after one of Andy’s ‘Dips’:

Aye,I guess he should have said:"O.K. Braithwaite…PULL!
Not that it would have made any difference to his belly flop.

Brilliant!
Love the Last Panel where Andy is floating on his back without a care in the world.
Poor Officer!

Here’s another example of an early Buster strip featuring both Flo and Andy!

The artist is Bill Titcombe, who’s style bared an uncanny resemblance to Reg Smythe.
In 1995 to mark the 35th anniversary of Buster Capp’s comic, Buster appeared in his Dad’s strip! (See below)
This fascinating strip took place 3 years before Reg Smythe passed away and so Buster’s image must have been added into the background with the great man’s permission, even though he never acknowledged a connection in the past.
