    Uh oh, Oopsters!

This looks like one heck of a row!

In any case, Guz does have a point there.

    Until tomorrow . . . HUGAHUGAPOUNCIES!

Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 18 “The Everlasting Man-thing”(31) 4/12/2013 Friday

    Panel One

“I can feel it. Some fear and anger I sense.” Corinne tells them as she probes the Baldander’s mind as it leaps, swings and jumps from limb to limb away from them inhumanly fast.

    Panel Two

“How about you Alley?” Jinx asked him.
“Who me? You think I am a tree swinger like that Tarzan fella?”

    Panel Three

She smiles, “sorry, even scientists can fall for popular old myths about cave men from time-to-time.”
“Apology accepted miss.” He smiled back, showing his big square teeth.

And the story drones on and on.

So does King Guz suspect the Grand Wizer’s nefarious plan? More than likely just the fact of gathered dinos marauding out of control was dangerous enough for Moo.

Banish Wizer for all time. That should make him a real dangerous villain with a vendetta.

Guz doesn’t have to suspect it — the Wizer himself gave a full confession to him and Alley last week!

    @Night-Gaunt49

Nigh-Gaunt49, as I promised a couple of days ago, this will be my last critique of your work.
    -
    The original text:
“I can feel it. Some fear and anger I sense.” Corinne tells them as she probes the Baldander’s mind as it leaps, swings and jumps from limb to limb away from them inhumanly fast.”
    -
    The edited text:
No edit, just a comment. The Baldander’s MIND leaps swings and jumps from limb to limb inhumanly fast?
    -
And in panel two, is Jinx asking Alley if he feels the Baldander’s vibes? Or is she asking Alley if he can swing from vines?
    -
Based on the portfolio you’ve presented here Night-Gaunt49, I would not hire you as a writer, illustrator, or creative director.
    -
You’ve been free in your criticism of the Benders, yet you are either unable or unwilling to apply simple editing to your own work. I believe if you haven’t already done so, you should take a course in creative writing from your local community college. Editing can be learned.
    -
Alternate Alley Oop is borderline plagiarism, which has potential for disastrous effects in either an ad agency or in-house marketing communications department.
    -
You have not given us any indication that you can draw – a vital part of comics
    -
On the positive side, characters you created work well within your stories. In fact, they could easily stand alone, without the link to Alley Oop.
    -
You have said you are able to create story lines, and bring them to closure. I’ll take your word for that. Closure is important in episodic communications.
    -
Doubtless, you and others will wonder about my qualifications to offer this critique. I have a BFA degree in advertising design. I’m retired after 35 years in marketing communications. During the last 20 years of my career I held positions of advertising manager, or marketing services manager at two multi-national firms. I post a weekly website, which I write and illustrate. The site deals mostly with small town politics.

I’m glad someone has said the kind of things I’ve been longing to say for a long time but just haven’t had the time for.

Re: ”Based on the portfolio you’ve presented here Night-Gaunt49, I would not hire you as a writer, illustrator, or creative director.” ………………..
….. ”You’ve been free in your criticism of the Benders, yet you are either unable or unwilling to apply simple editing to your own work”.
    …….. ……
”You have not given us any indication that you can draw – a vital part of comics."
    .
Fuddy, I think you are being too demanding here. I neither doubt your qualifications, nor question your motives to show Night-Gaunt the analogy between your criticism for him and his criticism of the Benders. However, is it possible you are now overextending your professional background for social leverage?
    .
Yes, the Bender artwork has been criticized, and “applications” for their replacement are rampant; however, I believe (and accept) the motives are more from social common sense than professional. Night-Gaunt has demonstrated his writing ability, especially visualization, which is subject to a fair but reasonable level of professional criticism in public; but, he has neither purported nor attempted to demonstrate any drawing skills as a basis for his criticism of the Benders.
    .
Moreover, in your own field I am sure you have had valuable staff members who are very talented in either writing or drawing, but not both. I have certainly seen this dichotomy of valuable talent with theory and lab in science; however, I am not going to reject someone in my R&D program because he/she can only demonstrate relevant theoretical talent without the corroborating lab talent … that is a separate task for me to delegate. Likewise, back in the social cartoon world, you and I can’t presume or expect both talents from one critical reader, much less a portfolio or a resume.
    .
Hopefully, I am not appearing too sanctimonious or hypocritical, because I have certainly been guilty of leveraging my professional background in annoying situations in the past. However, in situations such as these, it is just my humble and respectful observation that perhaps we should occasionally remind each other to assume appropriate limits when we publically subject others to our unsolicited professional criticism.

I thank you for your time and effort but feel it was just a more sophisticated means of wanting me to shut up about criticizing professionals like the Benders. It is your right of course.
    -
Just that since I am the only one with the temerity to actually dare to show that “I can do it better” that puts me out there to be shaved off. True I am not spending most of my waking hours on this project. But such is audacity. I make it easy for any one to come along and swat me down. One must have a thick skin to do so.
    -
As for plagiarism it could go either way. Gocomics doesn’t seem to care. So far neither does the Syndicate. Ever heard of Fan Fiction?
    -
It is easy to make up qualifications but I will take you at your word. I have no professional qualifications in this area. As for illustration, I don’t have the means or the time to create any. Also it would definitely infringe upon Alley Oop the real comic.

I’m assuming that the audience knows what I mean when as the Baldander’s mind is being probed its body and its mind are swinging away. Don’t underestimate your readership. I do not.
