so now they change the rules…..
no change of rules…………… Alley used the Axe…………. which is ALLOWED
Sooo, now who gets beheaded? lol
NG49 GOOD ONE
Night-Gaunt, At this point, the synopsis in the first two panels is well timed. I really like your panel style. It helps with the visualizations. When the panel changes, you know that the “scene in the screen” is being refreshed.
This has gotta be a win. No contact with the body was involved. The ball went from the referee to be hit with Ichik’s paddle over to be hit by Oop’s axe to score the goal.
We’ll see. I enjoy Oop and the writers of the strip. Thank you, Benders, for many good years of this strip.I do not believe it needs to be rewritten.
And we’re back to the same lazy artwork and two panel strip that characterizes the Benders’ performance. Honestly now, couldn’t this have been done in one panel, with two other panels to cover whatever is going to happen tomorrow and Thursday? Sheesh!
I’m trying to figure out why this strips draws me in every day. I mean, Doonesbury I read first, every day. Then Alley Oop. Why? What’s the fascination? Why would a guy who reads Doonesbury also read Alley Oop? I can’t figure it. What is it for the rest of you?
I will be pleasantly surprised if there is any more new activity until Friday when the Benders setup for the weekend panels. Then they will make that last until Tuesday of the following week. This could be a once a week 3 panel cartoon and it would cover more than it does now in a week. However, I would miss the daily comments. I keep reading because I hope it someday returns to the way it was 20 years ago.
Saturday and Sunday the ball was set up to be hit from right to left, today and yesterday it was hit from left to right.
I read the Phantom followed by Doonesbury and Alley Oop.
Imagine that a tire on the wall.
there is no way I expect Yochi to be a gracious looser.
Jack Straw – Brooke (Brooke McEldowney the creator) closed down comments on both 9 Chickweed Lane and Pibgorn due to abuse in the comments. See http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&ved=0CDwQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fchickweedcafe.blogspot.com%2F2010%2F12%2Fenough-of-all-that.html&ei=pwFrUJH4K4rk9ATal4CYDg&usg=AFQjCNELObreWw4l3eiSY742hTmUm9IREw for a complete description.
I always start with Oop, probably because of alphabetical order. I usually try to get in Phantom and Mandrake on King Comics early, because the pages load so stinkin slow. I may change it up, to get in an early comment on Go Comics. Then I do someting different. No method to my madness.
I too follow both Doonesbury and Alley Oop. Like davidf42, I come here for the comments and in hopes the strip will eventually be turned over to someone who will restore it to its former glory. Alley Oop has been around as long as I can remember. @ Jack Straw – As for comments on 9 Chickweed Lane, I read somewhere here that there is no comments section because the writer of the strip doesn’t want comments.
you should just write a story instead of pretending you can somehow fit all this into panels. Just saying.
Time to chop off that Yochis head and make Alley the new prince.
“Oop’s shot goes through the ring!” thanks I couldn’t tell what was happening.
let the picture tell the story — there was no need for the explanation.
@Jack Straw, I believe that I read a comment by Brooke McEldowney that he didn’t want comments on his work. You either liked it or not and he was going to keep doing what he wanted, regardless. I don’t remember for sure but I think that there are no comments on Pibgorn either. He does both strips.
Now get this plot wrapped up-back to Moo with Oola.
Finally Opp wins, and it only seems like the game just started.
Is it true the Benders are going to retire and Obama will take over??
I thought the two panels today were quite appropriate: the winning shot and the celebration. It’s all the weeks that led up to it that were too slow, repetitive and tedious.I didn’t read Alley Oop as a child and just began here because of all the negative comments, I wanted to see for myself. It is slow and inconsistent but for some reason I keep coming back.9 Chickweed Lane discontinued comments at the cartoonist’s request. I don’t think there is much chance of him changing his mind. Some say he is too thin-skinned and doesn’t take criticism well. I think it may be that the strip attracted inappropriate (i.e., obscene) comments.
Lessee… Born Loser, OOP, Frank & Ernest, BC, Id, Doonsbury, Tank Mc, Pibgorn (No comments), 9CL, Mythtickle, and a few editorial cartoons. I occasionally catch Mutt & Jeff and Lil Abner, as well as Peanuts.I tell ya, Y’all need to give Mythtickle a look.
As for Oop, Yoshi will be a sore looser but he will align with Oop when the chief wants to sacrifice his son, I just dont think the Benders are through with Lola. This could get interesting…
Wow! Lots of comments and I didn’t read all of them before wirting the post above. I’ve read comics for almost 70 years and you just get hooked. And now I’m addicted to the internet and these comment sections.
Back to the future,eh.

One thing I’ve wondered about is the name “Sneaky Bucher”. Is this purposely misspelled? If so, why? “Sneaky butcher” is, of course, street slang for a gay man. Are you trying to say something about your sexual identity? I’m not trying to be funny but am just curious about what the name signifies, especially that it’s not spelled correctly.
Or, on second thought, since he’s the king’s son maybe he’s exempt from beheading.
Brooke who writes 9CL is a man? I would have guessed wrong on that. It’s a beautiful strip (as was the film Out of Africa), but I’m afraid it appeals to me about the same, too.
