Alternate Alley Oop Chapter 15 “House of the Worm”(61) 10/2/12
Panel One
Some 189 million miles on the other side of the Earth’s orbit on the misplaced alternate Earth 2 in the African Equatorial region in what would be the Congo a joint USA/TexComm Corp beach head is in the final stages of being prepared as the first such base from our Earth to Earth 2 by use of a hyper-space jump gate under the direction of pioneer temporal physicist Dr. Elbert Wonmug.
A young woman from that alternate earth stowed away on an experimental space ship using a FTL drive and carried 3 astronauts. One of them was Alley Oop himself. Lola who resembled Alley’s almost girlfriend Ooola, when they arrived back on our Earth, she was somewhat terrified at the new surroundings and lonely for her husband. In order to protect her from ICE, Alley with the help of Wonmug took her back millions of years to Alley’s home country of Moo. There she felt mostly at home except most of the dinosaurs were still wild and it wasn’t her home. The stars “looked wrong” to her too.
But while she waited the US govt with a consortium of billionaires and NGOs (ALEC) backed the experiments that lead to the inter-planetary jump gate. Lola was returned to the present while Alley had been resting up. IN the first initial locking onto the gravitational coordinates of Earth 2 Lola ran to get to her earth, Alley followed but before she reached it a Gamma Ray Burst shifted the lock to a T type planet much further away and for nearly a week both Lola and Alley lived in an alien prehistoric world alone. They survived but it was very difficult and just before they nearly died the connexion was reestablished and they were saved! However some of that primal planet’s carnivorous life made it through.Lola became their guide like Sacajawea was to Lewis and Clark many centuries ago.
Panel Two
While Alley, Oscar, Dexter and Lavainge helped the US govt follow a strange series of thefts of fossils they found out about a super war criminal by the moniker of “Dr. Dark” who had worked for the Allies and then the Axis performing unimaginable medical experiments then disappeared.
Then over half a century later he came out of know where seemingly and was behind a staggering series of thefts that grew more audacious with every perpetration.He somehow could bring back from the dead people and animals and send them as agents to do his crimes. He armed them with fantastic weapons and could teleport them into and out of the places they needed to from Thailand to Nebraska and in the end got what he wanted. Along with the fossils and mummies he also wanted hi tech experimental components to assemble into some kind of force bubble that was impervious to anything thrown against it. What he used to protect the strange country of Belo-Rada that he helped to create out of large parts of Romania, Hungary and other countries a new enigmatic country in just 24 hours! Strangely the UN accepted it immediately to the consternation of the USA, Russia and others.
Panel Three
Alley Oop while recovering in the mean time found out about the (in)famous haunted “House of the Worm” in the state of Maine from Dr. Lavainge Avril and decided to go to relax. He has been doing anything but relaxing there.
Panel Four
“Well what should we do now?” Alley asked.
Panel Five
Stretching, Dr. Tucker said, “well I’d like to get some sleep but how will we do it without being attacked?”
Panel Six
“Don’t you have an inversion wave generator? And you certainly have the general frequency of ionization of the ectoplasmic forms don’t you?” Baroness von Clace rattled off at Dr.s Tucker and Avril.
They both answered in the affirmative. They rummaged around in the materials both of them had brought and then set up a perimeter in the main room then when they were ready turned it on. So now if any of the entity’s ectoplasm should try to cross the barrier it would be repulsed like two magnets trying to touch the same poles. The only problem is the floor boards. Dr. tucker says it won’t be a problem since the inversion field covers most of the area within the are of the perimeter. They went for an uneasy sleep.

@Night-Gaunt49
Night-Gaunt, At this point, the synopsis in the first two panels is well timed. I really like your panel style. It helps with the visualizations. When the panel changes, you know that the “scene in the screen” is being refreshed.

This has gotta be a win. No contact with the body was involved. The ball went from the referee to be hit with Ichik’s paddle over to be hit by Oop’s axe to score the goal.

We’ll see. I enjoy Oop and the writers of the strip.
Thank you, Benders, for many good years of this strip.
I do not believe it needs to be rewritten.

Now .. to wait until tomorrow for the final results from the King.
But you watch, the prince will demand a replay from the ref and playback production team to authenticate the final play.
Gee, wonder if the ref is a genuine or just a replacement ref?Carlo Coratelli said, 8 months ago
Yeaaahhh!

And we’re back to the same lazy artwork and two panel strip that characterizes the Benders’ performance. Honestly now, couldn’t this have been done in one panel, with two other panels to cover whatever is going to happen tomorrow and Thursday? Sheesh!

I’m trying to figure out why this strips draws me in every day. I mean, Doonesbury I read first, every day. Then Alley Oop. Why? What’s the fascination? Why would a guy who reads Doonesbury also read Alley Oop? I can’t figure it. What is it for the rest of you?

@Jack Landen
I come here because I have always, from my childhood, read Alley Oop first. I keep hoping that I’ll see a notice that the Benders are retiring and being replaced by decent cartoonists. The other reason is to read the comments, which are ten times more entertaining than the strip.

@Jack Landen
I also read AA and Doonesbury, along with a few others, but I save Doonesbury for last. 9 Chickweed Lane is surprisingly good, but for some reason, there’s no comment section with that one. Any idea how to contact Go Comics and request one?
