The US in 2022 is a society in which a partly fundamentalist-religious Supreme Court curtails the rights of women and expands those of gun owners. It is a country in which more than 20,000 people are shot every year, where mass murders in schools are part of everyday life and in which it is still not possible to at least restrict the possession of assault rifles. For many, the American dream has long since become a never-ending American nightmare. So is there no hope, no silver lining? There is always hope, and bad times tend to be followed by better ones. Nevertheless, the answer in this case is: probably no. Unless a miracle happens as soon as possible, but it is completely unclear what it should look like, the failure of the USA as a democracy can no longer be stopped.
