Brad Clay, caring white dude: Hi, I'm Brad I care. When I was a kid, we called you guys "colored people" but that was weird becasue you're not, like purple. Older whites called you "negroes" but we thought it sounded racist even when Martin Luther King used it. Then the acceptable term became "Afro-American." That only lasted a year or two. Perhaps the most successful word was "black" of course no one's skin is itch black so that makes zero sense. Nowadays it's "African-American" but it's awkward and implies single-generation descent from Africa. We, white people, are confused! How are we supposed to refer to you without being offensive? Man: Gee, Brad, I'm touched that you've given minority so much thought... that's so caring of you that you deserve the ultimate endearment. come here, nigger!) Brad Clay: Can I call you Mike?
