I was speaking to a couple of acquaintances who had worked a place I sometimes shop. One of them quit that place and went back to working at the local grocery store… at an increased wage, I gathered. The other had also worked at that grocery as a bookkeeper before getting on at this store. She told me she’s now working TWO jobs: Managing this store AND putting in nighttime hours doing bookkeeping. I hope she gets rich!

People complain that people are lazy but don’t account for mental stress

All the jobs that could be were outsourced or sent overseas. What’s left are jobs that need people here, and the Capitalists are going crazy.

Funny…read where a reporter decided to check this out. He lives in Florida, applied to 2 jobs per day for a month at those places most complaining they were desperate for workers and complaining about short staffing. A person who met the job requirements to stook shelves, pack boxes at warehouses, cook and serve fast food or take orders at restaurants, etc. etc. He got exactly 1 call for an interview.

Whenever a republikkklan politician or reich-wing talking head says “Americans need to get back to work” remember what they really mean is “Our money is worth more than your life.”

It’s time to raise wages when rich people start taking joy rides into outer space.

I worked for 45 years as a machinist for eleven different companies. Five jobs were for companies that went out of business. I quit four to accept a job at a better paying place. And I got fired from one job because it was a miserable place to work, I made it known I believed that and I was only staying there because couldn’t afford to quit. Point being, I have seen up close a wide range of small businessmen that believe God put them on earth to run a barely profitable machine shop in fly-over country. “I can’t find anybody that wants to work” is dog whistle for “I can’t find anyone that wants to work for what I want to pay”.

“Holz saw a discrepancy between the rhetoric of employers and the facts on the ground in Ft. Myers,” reported Alex Galbraith. “Many pointed to the expanded unemployment benefits as a reason they weren’t seeing applicants, but jobless claims have steadily dropped and Florida ended the enhanced benefits several months before he even began applying.”

Get the virus under control and many of these problems will began to take care of themselves.

Reminds me of a really old joke (not referring to myself). The human cannonball informs the circus manager he is quitting to take a job somewhere else. The circus manager gets angry and says “you can’t quit me! Where else can I find a man of your caliber?”.

Fiscal system is as out of balance as the environment….it may be time for a national strike. Might get “their” attention eh?

Yep, this accurately depicts the situation. The tables have definitely turned in favor of the workers. Right now, the demand for labor outstrips the supply, and that means employers have to COMPETE to attract labor. They’re not used to that.

I’ve seen quite a few people quit their jobs recently, due to dissatisfaction with the working conditions, or inadequate opportunities for advancement. The pandemic has made a lot of people really reevaluate what they want out of life, and realize just what they are really worth. If you want us to work, you have to make it worth our while.

This really made me laugh — it shouldn’t, what with no product being delivered and all the rest of the mess out there. But it’s still funny as hell. Thanks for the big laugh Steve ♥
