Chance to increase knowledge. Port and Starboard: Starboard is from “Steerboard” which is the rudder that the Vikings and others used, mounted to the side of the ship near the rear. Since most everybody is right handed, the steerbord was mounted on the RIGHT side (if you’re facing forward). And port: Naturally you’d avoid tying up to the pier/dock on the side that had the steerbord, so the port side is opposite to the starboard side.
As for whether the thuglicans understand this: Who cares? They’re not gonna use it anyway.
