fbjsr, I CANNOT STAND that phrase, often repeated: “We can’t just throw money at the schools and hope they’ll improve”. It isn’t throwing # at the schools to improve the teacher:student ratio. It isn’t throwing $ to have books and desks that aren’t falling apart. It isn’t throwing $ to build a new school so that students aren’t taught in broom closets. It isn’t throwing $ to pay quality teachers to retain their services. All of these things are REAL problems that require $$ to fix. Repeated studies show that INVESTING in education more than pays for itself in lower crime/incarceration and higher paying jobs.

Obama should be proud to own this economy (as you argue). Do you recall the state of the economy when he got the job? We were talking about nationalizing the banks, repeating the Great Depression, etc. The stock market has recovered, housing has recovered, the banks are stable, and unemployment is down.

@Harleyquinn How do you fund a riot?

Harley, I find your posts interesting. After I peel my palm off my face and stop hitting my head on the desk after reading your comments, I see that they offer some insight into a Tea Party-type’s mind.

For example, you said, “But I do not believe that man’s working with CO2 is a sin worthy of chasting and bankruptcy.”

I suspect that many conservatives who are “deniers” of AGW are such b/c of the reasons you offered. They fear that if mankind IS causing this change that we will then have to live in the stone age, and so they must NOT believe in it. But that isn’t the case. A few well placed investments, some simple policy changes, some incentives here and there, and we could make some profound changes with minimal change in lifestyle.

As for death panels, THERE ARE NONE. If you still believe in them, offer some evidence.

@SuperMax52. Please tell me something Republicans are FOR. What do they hope to accomplish?

(You can only count ‘Repeal Obamacare’ if they also offer an alternative.)

Harley’s right. We should have stayed and given those ISIL folks a better target: American men, women and bases. Harley, the people of that corner of the world have been fighting each other for centuries. There are only ways to stop it. The first is to let them figure it out themselves. Now, this doesn’t to be happening yet. We even helped them set up an army…that turned and ran at signs of trouble. The second is to stay there permanently as an occupying force which will unite them against us. While the first option is distasteful, I have ZERO interest in the latter. So I remain happy that we left when we did and hope we lose no American lives fighting someone else’s battle.

Antique, you aren’t doing your side any favors with that argument/name calling/radicalism (Every citizen is a member of the militia).

BTW, I am not a member of any militias.

Hope no one works for a “closely held company” that doesn’t believe in vaccinations, surgery, etc.Personally, I have a strongly held belief in hour long lunch breaks and 4 day workweeks.

Harley, so many things wrong w/ what you wrote. The group isn’t Al Quaeda, its a another group called ISIS that has come in from Syria. Also, nobody is going to keep that country under control but another crazy dictator. Too many people there have no love of their country and are unwilling to fight for it, as evidenced by their armed forces who just dropped their guns and uniforms when the fighting got hot. (They’re not cowards, they just aren’t willing to die FOR THEIR COUNTRY…for Allah, sure) So unless you are saying we should have continued to lose American $$ and lives in a FRUITLESS effort in that war ravaged land, you should admit that we NEVER SHOULD HAVE GONE IN IN THE FIRST PLACE. Even Papa Bush said so.

I swear, I just DON’T GET this whole, “Obama wants to be Emperor!” idea. One one hand, people say ’he’s pushy!‘, then they say, "he can’t get anything done!"

Besides, each president tries to expand the Executive Branch’s powers, and he hasn’t done anything any more ridiculous than any other president.
