    Miss Smith could hear a voiceless snide remark from a hundred yards, but couldn’t hear, “I don’t have my homework, Miss Smith” unless you said it loud enough for the kindergartners to hear past the younger grades, office, gym, locker rooms… Tentoes usually did not have his homework.

    Filibuster in the 19th century meant private “adventures” in attacking and taking over countries like Nicaragua. Now filibuster means run out the clock by speaking non-stop.
