The Philadelphia Orchestra has (had) a residency near me. They usually do two movie nights, where they show a film and play the score live! THAT’S awesome! They did Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, Harry Potter films, ET. It’s amazing that you forget the music is not part of the movie!
I felt similarly about the movie “The Sound of Music” when it was first released. I was so sure I wouldn’t like it before they started rolling the film, but I ended up loving it at the end. And I was only 9 years old at the time.

The Albany (NY) Symphony does a series of concerts aimed specifically at kids. Their conductor has a real knack for making it enjoyable.
