Got a letter, said I owed more money. Just had to pay it, no audit. I forgot to put down something so it was correct, I did owe.

One’s chances of being audited were always 1 in thousands. And that was before the reduction in force caused by the pandemic. Guess that ratio is much higher now. But that also means more fraudulent returns also get a ‘bye’, so it isn’t all good.

Husband does our taxes. A few years ago, got IRS letter, said we owed $10,000. Husband said we didn’t and wrote letter. More IRS letters, now we owed interest also – more letters to IRS from husband. Then letter from IRS, we only owed $198 ! I was ecstatic, husband said no, we didn’t owe anything. Another few letters to IRS. Finally, we went to an IRS office and talked to the representative there. After some time checking her computer, she said my husband was right, we did not owe any money. And then as we were getting ready to leave she asked my husband to please not write them any more letters. : )

“…I’d recommend that over a sauna.”

The auditor’s office is above a sauna?
