So, police officers don’t like being stereotyped because they “fit a profile”?
I hope they can appreciate the irony.
If police don’t want to be perceived as violent threats, maybe they should stop dressing up like they are going into battle and stop threatening people who are unarmed and compliant.
There are many, many good police officers who go to work every day, dedicated to true protection and service. But they know who the “bad apples” are. And sorry, if you know who the bad ones are and you’re not speaking up, then, yes, you also get tarred with their same brush.
Firefighters are also authority figures, but you don’t see protesters out in the streets marching to protest fire departments or calls to shut them down. You don’t see rap groups writing songs titled, “F*** the firefighters,” analogous to that song about police by NWA. This is because firefighters save any house, without regard to race or ethnicity and treat people with respect. Firefighters do not intimidate or beat minorities. They do their job with professionalism and skill and they are respected.
If there are 10,000 good police officers in the force and one “bad apple,” and the 10,000 know who the one is and keep their “blue wall of silence” to protect (read: enable) the bad one, then you have 10,001 bad apples.
