Ramirez shows either abject ignorance of foreign policy, intentionally dishonest distortion (gaslighting) or both, in trying to compare the recent arms deal coupled with a mutual defense treaty against a common enemy (Iran) masquerading as a peace deal (how can you have a peace deal among nations that HAVE NEVER BEEN AT WAR?), with an actual seven-nation peace accord with real teeth in it that was working and successful?
Trump got an amazing! (not!) “peace” accord among three nations that were not at war. It was basically an arms sales deal against a common enemy (Iran) which actually does more to foster tensions in the Middle East and INCREASE the chance of hostilties.
In constrat, Obama negotiated an excellent seven-nation (U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Russia, China and, of course, Iran) multi-lateral treaty that had succeeded in preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. It included unprecedented tools of verification and enforcement.
Trump’s own top intelligence and security advisors — his own appointees, all of whom had opposed the Obama success at the time it was achieved — had confirmed that it was working, Iran was in compliance and, despite their previous opposition, recommended against the disruption of ending it.
Trump, in his typical bull-in-the-china-shop tantrum style of “governing” by chaos, broke off the agreement, alienated our allies, created unnecessary tension with our adversaries and has now brought us to the point where we are teetering on the brink of war.
Iran was a problem.
Obama fixed it. Trump broke it, and is now selling arms in deals that only increase tensions.
