My cat does the same thing.
My dog is so small, and our bed is very high. I have to pick her up to put her on the bed. She sleeps in between the pillows in the middle of the night she moves to the bottom of the bed.

My dachshund plays that game with me all the time and I have vern right there when he has jumped up into the chair an hour ago.
