I was reading Walter Lord’s book about the Coastwatchers in the Solomon Islands in WW2. At one point a US is dispatched to one of the islands to evac some special forces types, but a lot of missionaries, native women and children are also there to be evac’ed. The forward torpedo room was made into a nursery.
Until she [USS Gato] transferred her charges two days later, one 10 month-old baby would sleep nowhere except in the arms of a giant, bearded torpedoman named Phillips.
Oh good, Otis and Olivette!

Lonely Vigil Walter Lord
I immediately thought of Otis and Olivette!
