The vaccination rate in the US peaked at 3 million doses a day in April, and has dropped to around 1 million a day. The projected time to reaching 75% has been increasing, as it is clear that there is a substantial number (25-30%) of the populace who intend to never get it.
When are we going to grow some cajones and apply the tools we have available to get through to them. I understand that ultimately a person has the right to make decisions about their body, but why should our insurance system continue to carry them without reflecting the risk they are taking? If you smoke you pay higher insurance rates. Want to risk death or disability? Pay for it in your insurance. And where the government is the insurer they should simply pull their coverage.
And before people bring this up, the small set of people with compromised immune systems who should not get it should be exempted. I have a sister in law with Lupus, and I would expect she should not, for example.
Then there is the issue of the risk those people pass on to others. That is where society should have the right to know that you are a refusenik. Everywhere I go no-one is wearing a mask, and statistically > 30% are not vaccinated. I should have the ability to know who they are so I can steer my child or grandson who is not yet eligible well clear of them. Alas, the tool for this one is not that easy. I guess branding is out…
