Japan is treating COVID like the emergency that it is, unlike Donald Trump who allowed more than 1,800 Americans (per million of population) to die from a disease that so many other nations successfully controlled.
Japan is taking emergency actions, even though (compared to the U.S. rate of 1,869 deaths per million of population) their rate of death is “only” 181 deaths per million of population.
Other countries (who are not hosting international fun and games) have done even better:
Thailand: THREE death per million and holding steady
Singapore: FIVE deaths per million and holding steady
New Zealand: FIVE deaths per million and holding steady
South Korea: 36 deaths per million and holding steady
Japan: 80 deaths per million and holding steady
United States: 1,869 deaths per million of population
And because of early, aggressive action to IDENTIFY, ISOLATE, CONTACT TRACE and CONTAIN with narrow, specifically TARGETED QUARANTINES, SOUTH KOREA, SINGAPORE, and JAPAN NEVER HAD TO GO TO FULL, GENERAL SHUTDOWN and never saw a spike in unemployment (New Zealand had a brief shutdown and their prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, who had been struggling in polls, was re-elected by a landslide with an outright parliamentary majority — no need to form a coalition — for the first time).
