Why not just shoot THROUGH the Earth?

I figured he’d miss, but I thought he’d take out Tokyo instead.
Thank goodness it hit him where he can’t feel it…
Sigh. Earth’s gravitational field isn’t strong enough to bend light more that very, very slightly. It would just shoot off into space and dissipate with distance.
