I hate to get all technical…. (cough)…
but word balloons in airplanes have special, double borders called gimbals.
The inner border can rotate inside the outer border, to turn itself upright when the outer border is upside down.
Candles and lanterns on old ships, and compasses too, were set in gimbals, to stay upright when the ship rocked.
