The song being parodied was written by the husband of ventriloquist Shari Lewis. I miss Lamb Chop and Charlie Horse, but mostly I miss her.

From an actual tech-support conversation of mine: “That cable has two ends. One end goes into your modem, the other end goes into your computer. There is no third end that’s supposed to go anywhere!” … And he still didn’t get it. (For the record: I’m on the tech end of the conversation.)

I too miss Shari and Lamb Chop. Only years later, as an adult, did I understand why my mother also thought it was funny, how counter-culture it really was, and just how well it worked on multiple levels – kid and adult – to keep the adults bringing their kids back. And it was all creative & original, not an advertisement for a food or toy.

At least it isn’t the phone company, they want you to try and climb the pole to check to see if it is your inside line. I have even had them tell me I have to unscrew the cover on the box on the outside of the house to then plug a phone in. That’s if you can even navagate the push this push that maze. Such customer service
