CFLs aren’t that bad aesthetically. We just aren’t used to looking at them. do have to say the light they emit is notattractive nor is it consistent in color or brightness. I moved into a place where all the fixtures were graced with the spirally bulbs but 4 different shades and brightness’ of blueish and yellowish all mixed up. Aligned them best I could. Sheesh.

Decoration has no purpose from an engineering standpoint, and adds unnecessary cost as well.
Of couse, minimalism – clean lines, smoothness of surface, be it Bauhaus or Apple – is an aesthetic of its own, it’s just a different aesthetic. For a long time, the minimalist aesthetic has also been the futuristic aesthetic, whereas “flash and filigree” is seen as a thing of the past.
