Come on. Can we not appreciate that Lisa did one that wasn’t partisan BS? We can all disagree on how wisely our military is used, but we should at least agree to show gratitude for those who volunteer to serve.
Can we not just acknowledge the gratitude we should feel for the men and women who have paid the ultimate price to ensure our liberty without turning it into a bi-partisan screed?
it’s nice she didn’t get all partisan or uber anti Obamite with this one. It’s a good day to reflect on sacrifices and the honor of these fallen soldiers. Remember it’s only because of them that you’ve never seen a foreign tank rumbling down your street.
The 1% reap the benefits and avoid taxes while telling the rest of us it’s our patriotic duty to die for our country. The new military is mostly made up of people who can’t find work that pays a decent wage. Or can’t afford college. How many rich mens’ sons are out there fighting? Romney and none of his 5 sons ever served, but like Bushy the draft dodger he will be happy to send your kids out to die and get maimed.
A large number of my friends are on a wall that speaks to our “errors in judgement”. A large number of dead people testify to the fact I’m NOT a “pacifist”, but do hate war and stupidity that gets us into pointless ones. My son is also a disabled veteran, and we both know what it is to “serve” our nation, at great risk. We both have lost close friends, many of them, in that cause.
Every Memorial Day, the cowards crawl out of their bunkers to praise those who served, and died. They wave their flags, count their profits, and look for new idiocy to lead the sheep of the nation into slaughter.
A ferocious defense of family, and nation, when actually attacked, is called for, and appropriate. Such as, going after the Al Qaeda camps, wherever located, after 9/11 was “appropriate”. “Getting” our real enemies, even if just criminals, not nations, IS appropriate, and I support it. There was NO NEED to invade Afghanistan, or Iraq to displace governments, especially ones we were largely responsible for putting in place, and maintaining, in the first place.
Attacking persons, or nations, and causing unnecessary pain, grief, and horror, upon those who DID NOT ATTACK US, is a fool’s errand. Those who support same, not recognizing they are being used only for the profit a of a small group, who care not for life, liberty, or the pursuit of anything but personal profit, are fools.
I find it interesting that those most inclined to bring horror on others are the ones who call those of us who have actually been there, and don’t want to see it repeated, “hate filled”, when indeed it is the hate THEY HOLD, we see as the purist of evils.
Hey people, do not feed the troll today (dtroutma) – He imputs division in todays strip where the IS none, and were we as a Nation can stand together to honor ALL the veterens in ALL of America’s past!
“What would you have the rest of us do?”-My suggestion would be to pick your battles. I think the cartoon sets a reverential tone, and should be followed. If you don’t like dt’s post, you don’t have to respond, much less escalate. Adding to the animus doesn’t negate a slight. You have the option of rising above.
@paul bolander, ScottPM, and PianoGuy24Cut the crap. I see partisan BS and out right hate from both sides on these fora. You could have rose above it on this one occasion, but you chose to join in.
Your problem is you think you know everything. How dare you presume to know my status as a veteran!!!
Jase99 – On todays strip there was NO NEED for partinisanship. Yet dtroutma came out with the FIRST comment and it was to BASH Bush! All I did was call him out on it and that it was not necessary!
As well as dtroutma having military experience, he also seems to be the one with a grasp on reality. Iraq, and to a lesser extent Afghanistan, were not about defending liberty and freedom, nor “preventing foreign tanks from rumbling down your street.” You could name political ambition, ego, greed, retribution, and stupidity, but not liberty or freedom..The military is now America’s biggest enemy (or politician’s use of the military) in terms of cost, reputation, and world standing. It is ironical that the biggest killer of Americans in Afghanistan is Americans, in the form of suicides.
Bruce: I do NOT “hate”. I DO however hold contempt for, and despise, those who have committed despicable acts, in the name of personal profit, economic, or power. There IS a difference. The “hate” we see here is unjustified, unsupported by facts, and dedicated to false propaganda-spread ideology. To base one’s anger, upon actual facts, and acts, is justified. To base one’s “anxiety” upon actual experience is rational. To attack others without substantial reason, is a different kind of “anxiety”, and represents true mental defect.

Yes lies do seem to work quite well for liberals and democrats.
