I hate to nitpick, but – no wait, I love to nitpick – don’t we all? The IRS doesn’t tax you on your home unless you sell it for a huge profit. Now, if she tried to deduct the laces, or claim an exemption for the fungus living in the boot, she might have a problem.
Mmmm, the IRS wasn’t mentioned; her town must assess property tax on dwellings, but not on personal property. But she’d have to prove someone in her family actually wears it…
