Somebody doesn’t like school it sounds like.

Gesundheit!…now, go to school already, Linus!

What, and miss a class with Miss Othmar??

A true hypochondriac in the making (and by the way, Linus, wait until you have to go to WORK in the rain. If you think school is bad, just wait until you get your first job!)

Where I live it rains so seldom that mothers often don’t take elementary-aged kids to school in the rain. They act like they’re going to melt or something. No child walks to school alone anymore—too many have gone missing.

A true example of someone talking himself into being sick! Enjoy it while youca, Linus. When you grow up, you won’t be able to afford the luxury.

I seem to remember that when I was in school, all the kids who rode the school bus got to leave early on rainy days because it took the bus longer to get them home in the rain.

If it pours too hard for me to go anywhere, I just take off my shoes and coat, get a hot drink, and something to read.

But when it rains in Barbados, sometimes it’s so heavy you can’t see more that a few feet in front of you!!

That brings back memories, and not very good ones either.

An umbrella or a raincoat would help, Linus.

Why is Linus walking to school? I thought they rode the bus.

This strip is a good reminder to me of what I experienced while growing up. It prepared me for those wet & muddy days on Okinawa when we were fighting the Japanese. I will never forget that rainy May of 1945.

Why didn’t you take the bus?

I used to say EXACTLY the same, Linus!

I got ill once after doing sport in the freezing cold for 2 hours!

If my children had to walk in the rain to their bus stop, I gave them an umbrella. They were prone to colds. Linus does sound like a hypochondriac. But I thought he was able to make the rain go away. Anyone remember that strip?

That sounds like something I would have done- “Mama, I’m sick. I can’t go to school today.” “You only sneezed!”

I walked home from school in the rain one afternoon in second grade! (Unheard of now.) I remember crying because it was such a lonely feeling getting caught in a torrent in Naples, FL in an afternoon storm. Then I remember thinking, “well no one knows I’m crying because the rain covers my tears.”

They had raincoats in 60s, right?

Funny. Linus is one of the smartest characters in the strip, but he doesn’t like school.
