Our icemaker is just as noisy, I always thought it was just ours

the burglar is a pipsqueak?

Yup, familiar sounds…no problem. But let a new sound squeak in, and BOOM, you’re wide awake!

How true…when I first moved into an apartment, all the noise kept me awake for a few nights….when I moved into my house, the quiet kept me awake….

And copier/printers that periodically reset themselves and make sounds like they are printing! In the middle of the night.

That’s just like in our apartment. Sometimes the refrigerator noises make me jump!

An old farmer lived by the train tracks, and every morning at 1:37, the train would roll by, making an awful racket. But, after 50 years, he’d grown accustomed to the noise and had slept through it for almost half a century. However, the line went bankrupt and that night at 1:37 there was no train. The farmer jolted out of bed shouting, “What the &^*( was that!?”

Reminds me of when I was living in Hong Kong. I was very used to traffic noises, but the first time I slept out in a village in a friend’s house, the dogs and roosters woke me up early.
