Iraq War Veterans, 2032
Man 1: We totally coulda won. Politicians tied our hands.
Man 2: No parades for us... stinky hippies spat on us... called us baby killers.
Man 3: I'm running for Congress.
A few good soldiers, many mercenaries—rife with “private” contractors—fighting meaningless, mind-numbingly stupid wars, not for our country but for the ruling global oligarchy.
I agree that it was a pointless war (except for certain neocons and their favored contractors, sure), but many of the actual soldiers who fought were and are decent human beings doing their best in a tough situation, and I think many if not most knew perfectly well that the situation was untenable and unwinnable and did their best anyway. There were obviously the bad apples as well, but it is really, really not fair to tar tens of thousands of people with the same brush.
Go Duckworth! It’s interesting that few if any vets of these wars see them as “viable” or “necessary”. Many, like my son, were in the military when the idiocy began, serving their country, not just the morons at the top. Also, vets were seen at both TEA party events, and joining the 99% folks in “occupy” demonstrations. The Westboro folks ARE the only ones I’ve ever seen condemning the troops, and I’m sure they will all be stoking the fires with Kim Jong Il, if they’re even partly right in their beliefs.
IF we have vets from these wars running for Congress in 2032, I’m sure they’ll be a lot wiser than the morons debating for the Republicans today.
^If GHW Bush had not TOLD HIM to go ahead and invade Kuwait, it wouldn’t have happened! It took Maggie Thatcher about 28 seconds to point out the old man was an idiot!
He’s the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,His orders come from far away no more,They come from here and there and you and me,And brothers can’t you see,This is not the way we put the end to war.
The elite couldn’t fight their wars without so many people willing to kill for them. The military are mercenaries with official uniforms
Churchie, stay in your playpen with your toy swords, YOU are the one who constantly touts the perspective of the Westboro clan.(NOT the religion, just the insanity, and contempt for anyone YOU don’t agree with.)
@masterskrain: Pull your head out. That’s ALL that BOTH “parties” care about. People like YOU who treat the two wings of the “Party that Corporate America bought a long time ago” like they are a football team that you root for (GO DEMS! GO REPUBS! ) ARE the problem. And while you bitch about the “other guys” (and it’s always THEIR fault, isn’t it? Of course, it couldn’t be YOUR team) and religiously vote for your team every election nothing ever changes…

Most of us will be successful in life; we volunteered. must be hard for most to understand how much we love our country.

I hope that someday, we do elect someone from the Sandbox Wars… I honor those who chose to serve our country. Thanks, guys & gals of the Military!

In Illinois there’ll be a good chance to elect a Gulf War veteran — Tammy Duckworth is running again.

This misses the mark. Ted Rall does that sometimes.

I have staunchly supported peace my whole life – when do I get a medal? When do I get a president? If you’re not dead yet, thank a anti-war protestor!
