Ted Rall for November 04, 2011
Transcript:
Faced with outrage, bank of America has canceled its planned $5/month debit card fee. (Man: OK, we get it.) The new fees were an attempt to replace revenues lost elsewhere. Now, experts say, banks will raise other fees. (Man: I will be slow and gradual, but they will bring those revenues back. They... have to hide the fees and the customers will have to pay.) Joe Gillen, Bank Consultant. If companies have a God-given right to replace lost income, surely individuals ought to be able to do the same. (Woman: My bank is screwing me with fees. To make up for my lost revenue, I'm charging you a "crappy boss" fee.) For example, people could give themselves unilateral price breaks at the pump. (Man: Sorry. I can only pay $2 a gallon.) We could give ourselves raises. Like CEO's do. (Woman: No, my job performance will not improve. I'm taking an extra 10% to make up for the under-reported inflation rate.) Eventually, things would come full circle. (Man: I'm paying myself a higher interest rate on savings to make for your higher hidden fees.)

Bank of America was the one issuing credit cards to illegal aliens awhile back.

Ted Rall gets it. This dynamic is NEVER going to change until the People take the government BACK from the banks. This has never been about capitalism. It’s about democracy and the lack thereof.

I don’t understand, Lavocat, are you saying Obama’s bailout of the banking industry was ill-advised and immoral? I completely agree with you. Let the free market dictate what Banks do and don’t make for profits, not the government!

Some cartoons are not meant to be funny. Capitalism does not equal rape – - – or does it?

“If companies have a God-given right to replace lost income, surely individuals ought to be able to do the same”.
But Ted, the Supreme Court has ruled that a corporation is a person. So an individual, not being a corporation, is it a person or not?

I think my mattress now matches the interest paid from a B of A savings account. Nope! It doesn’t leave me in the hole with fees!

You’re missing the forest for the trees. Again: this is NOT about capitalism or what currently passes for capitalism in America (which ain’t capitalism by any stretch). Look deeper.

Occupy GoComics! We’re tired of commercials and time-consuming re-clicking. We want all our comics on one page, and we don’t want to pay eleven dollars! Who’s with me?!
