So long as they don’t get muddled. Chocolate for human consumption should never be given to a dog (even though they love the stuff).

Do you guys have to do this EVERY time Fred is given a choc-drop? Don’t we all know by now, British dogs are given safe carob ‘choc drops’?

They are, incidentally, marked as being safe for human consumption, presumably in case a kid decides to scoff them – so I can report that they taste kind of OK but nothing like Cadbury’s Buttons ;-). Oh, and they don’t melt – we once tried to make a ‘chocolate’ crispie cake for the dog’s birthday but it didn’t work

Until the above post I didn’t know hwat a choc drop was. I didn’t think it would be harmful, but I’m glad it was clarified as well.

I’m sure the strip is giving Fred the kind for humans, otherwise we wouldn’t have to go through this bullcrap every time the strip mentions choc-drops!

Any Vet or knowledgeable dog owner will tell you that chocolate can be fatal for dogs. It is outrageous portray chocolate in a favorable light This strip could well be responsible for the death of many dogs!

Well here goes, my dogs over the years have all accidentally gotten into chocolate, because they were smart and knew how to climb, unlock cupboards, etc. Anyway, nothing ever happened to them. 2 of them lived to be 16 and 17. Just like anything else, reactions to different things depends on the individual. I’ll leave now! :-)

I don’t want to start a war, but I once had occasion to ask my vet about chocolate poisoning. My dog apparently needed a snickers bar to make it to supper time so he helped himself to mine, wrapper and all, of course! My vet said that as a matter of course, a person should not feed their dog chocolate. He also said you shouldn’t feed them pancakes, cookies, cakes, or any high sugar content food. But in terms of chocolate being especially toxic for dogs, it isn’t. In fact, unless the animal engorged himself, it’s doubtful that any long term harm would occur. (other than a tremendous mess!) It’s a common sense issue, which is why it seems to be such a hot button subject with Fred…
