Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for March 06, 1995
Transcript:
Janis examines herself in the window and asks Arlo, "Do you like this sweater?" Arlo answers, "Yes, it's very flattering." Janis looks at another angle of herself in the mirror and asks, "Really?" Arlo replies, "Yes, it becomes you." At another angle, Janis asks, "You think so?" Arlo says, "You look like a brick outhouse." Janis seems happily satisfied now. Arlo remarks, "Well, I seemed to be having trouble being understood."

I was confused as well. I looked it up. Same as “Brickhouse”.
I suppose in early usage it was OK.
Definition: Strong and mighty; curvaceous and shapely; sturdy.
When referring to a man, this expression usually holds the first definition. When referring to a woman, it usually holds the second definition.

Interestingly in the UK that expression would be taken as very negatively :-)
