It’s been “static”, and until “business” steps up to the plate and provides some of the incentive on THEIR dime, that they’ve not done in nearly a decade, no growth. Everybody has to chip in, and that includes those “in the chips”, as well as those trying to heat homes with cow chips.
Here’s a disturbing twist on the problem – I’ve been underemployed for six months (I’m an engineer working retail) because many tech firms and companies claim there is a hiring freeze. One of those companies, Siemens, just announced they will be importing between 3000 and 5000 foreign workers and training them because they can’t find American workers. I know from my experience and talking to many engineers in the same situation that this is untrue: the messages we have received from these companies is that there are no available jobs, not that we are unqualified. If they are going to train these foreign workers, they could just as easily train the ones who are already here.
By the way, this is not something that reflects upon the last 2 Presidents. Reagan allowed the deregulation that permits companies to hire overseas to increase profits, and Clinton approved NAFTA to make it easier to do the same in South and Central America.

And what exactly does the VP have to do with this Owie (other than your continued hate for the guy)?

This toon is totally wrong. For it to be right, it would need Obama there with a chainsaw cutting the tree down…
