You haven’t missed anything. Just another “boy discovers sex” post-pubescent angst vehicle trying to validate the complete removal of all moral restraints. I was forced to read several of these in my senior year of high school in 1968, and got a D because I thought they were all stupid.

Or, a great read that is a very good story. I got an A in my senior year and I liked it.
