Perry can’t beat Obama. There’s too much corruption, cravenness, ignorance, and cruelty in his background. And Harley, there was no truth at all to the Swift Boaters. That was a shocking, craven attack on a good soldier, engineered by the Republican party machinery in secret in favor of a back-sliding coward, and it was the first thing that made me swear to never vote Republican again.
HOWGOZIT, what exactly do you know about this EXCEPT from the TruthBoaters? You do realize they only questioned one of Kerry’s medals — which means even they believe in the other TWO? And then they used this to obscure the fact that Bush was not only a draft-dodger, but a dishonest one who bailed on his commitment.Appalling.
No, let’s compare apples to apples. Clinton followed the entire LEGAL path to avoiding the draft. He didn’t flee to Canada, he got a student deferment — as did many Republicans. GW Bush got placed in a special National Guard unit for well-connected people, was trained at taxpayer expense, and then left before the end of his duty. His father’s connections got him out of it, but it is very clear from the evidence that he failed even to complete his National Guard service. That’s worse. And you’re still dodging the central issue: that even if you accept the SwiftBoaters as honest — and there is good reason not to — Kerry had a highly honorable military career.
The sad and simple fact is that anyone voting for ANY of the current crop of potential Republican candidates would go bungie jumping off an 80 foot high bridge, with an 80 foot long bungie! It’s the “intellect”.
Granted, he was there as a “journalist”, but at least Al Gore enlisted in the Army, and served in Viet Nam. Even with HIS political connections, he felt if he didn’t go, someone else would have to. HE didn’t join the Guard, desert, and get an “early out” six months before his term was intended to end, and he wasn’t an “officer” who shunned his duty.
As to student deferment, there IS a difference between getting five while getting busted drunk in the states, and having a Rhodes scholarship at Oxford.

Give him more rope, just make sure it’s 8 feet shy of the distance to the ground from the gibbet.
