I can’t stand Perry. He’s a faux cowboy conservative. But he is right about social security being a ponzi scheme. Does anyone really think there will be money available for them in the next two decades when they retire?

Perry didn’t just touch the third rail with his, “Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme” comment…he put out his tongue and licked the sucker.

So if we are a “Christian Nation” why are we not following the Gospel and forgiving and forgetting?

@jmadams: " Ever wonder why all the libs on this site keep calling on us to forget 9-11?" When did anybody, libs or otherwise, say to “forget 9-11?” Some people have been so bold as to suggest that perhaps we coud learn something from the event, and, how we, as a nation, handled it.

Well, I thought it WAS a “patriotic cartoon” to make people think.

Which, maybe if they remember that TEN YEARS of TWO WARS could NOT accomplish what a few men acting on REAL intelligence could accomplish against the ONE main “target” that started the whole thing, and was the sole rational for invading Afghanistan, and “punishing” Saddam- who supposedly offered him “support”!

Maybe because it didn’t happen on the Mainland. This hit closer to home for many people.

Perry would be the “white meat” poultry- he’s changed a lot to accommodate the TEA, and it’s kinda’ sad. The ’toon merely demonstrates how far Rich might go to get a vote.

As to 9/11 I think of it every day, with my son’s participation in another senseless war we shouldn’t have EVER been in, and the deaths of close friends.

Not only do I know what a Ponzi scheme is, Orkie…I recently read the biography of the guy who created it.

And Social Security ain’t a Ponzi scheme…but it doesn’t matter, that wasn’t my point.

Attacking Social Security is poltical suicide by any other name. If there’s one demographic no politician wants turned against him, it’s the retirees. They’re the fast growing demographic in America, especially with the baby-boomers retiring, and since they don’t have to worry about taking time off from work to get out and vote, they always turn out in large numbers on election day

And the quickest way to make them mad at yout is to attack Social Security. Whether you love or hate Sociual Security, that’s the Realpoliitik of 2012 ADEnd of story

Yeah yeah…and we had to destory that village to save it, right?

First of all, a Ponzi scheme is an investment scheme. The idea is that you claim to pay people out of the investments you make with the money they give you, usually promisng a hefty dividend. ( The original Ponzi scheme, for example, promised investors a 50% return on their money.

In fact what happens is. you pay the early investors with the money you get from new investors, whose bonds have not yet come due. ( Robbing Peter to pay Paul )

Now, I know what you’re going to say, I just described Social Security, right?

WRONG! Social Security is not, and has never ahs been an investment scheme ( though that’s what it will become if it’s ever privatized ) It’s an INSURANCE PLAN…and it has never promised people a huge return on their payroll taxes.

It’s also got enough money to remain solvent until at least 2037…so why all the sceaming from the right that it needs to be ‘fixed’ right NOW?.

But what I really love is hearing a guy who constantly touts himself as a Christian dismissing the people on Social Security as ‘leeches’.

Four words for you Harley, you’re gonna be hearing ’em again someday.

    1. I

    2. Never

    3. Knew

    4. You
