Wait till you have to pay UPS or FedEx 5 – 6 – 7 bucks or so to send something that can’t be emailed. And drive to the nearest UPS store to send it…
It will be a different tune then.
What they need to do is raise the price of a stamp to a more realistic amount. About 75 cents should do it. And cut out the special rates for junk mail.Their shortfall will quickly vanish.
And no I don’t work for the Post Office. Not even close. Self employed @ 25K. But I know what a good deal looks like….
For God sake read some history! The Post Office has been around since the days of the pony express! Its written in our constitution (Postal Clause, Article One)! Its been doing fine until the 2006 Postal Reform act.
As for the $.44 cent price I suggest you read **AVARNER**’s suggestion instead of popping off at the mouth.
The simple fact is, the Postal Service wasn’t intended to be a “business” operating for profit, until Republicans changed the laws and regulations concerning the agency.(“privatizing” it’s definition) Ben Franklin would be disgusted by those who think ANY part of “government” service should be profitable. Hmmm, what would he think of “defense” today, and the “military industrial complex”? Same as Ike- deplorable.
^Would you please note that postmasters were political appointments, and the REGULATIONS implementing laws passed by Congress are written by ADMINISTRATIONS. The Postal Service Reorganization Act made it “independent” from the government in 1971. It has not directly received taxpayer dollars since the 1980’s and yes, has had continuing financial difficulties with the cultural and economic impacts of the “internet”.
Course no one’s talking about the fact that the Post office is profitable , only the 2006 congress forced it to fund Health Care for workers 75 years into the future (so that the GOP could destroy the biggest Union in the country). Now it has 50Billion locked up in that useless law and it is short 9 Billiion, no one is doing the Math (not even President Obama, so I’d say he’s to blame for the destruction of the US Post Office, one of the few things that make every corner of the United States part of the United States.

The U.S. Postal Service is one of the most efficient in the world. Try any other nation’s mail service and then compare.
