I don’t want to sound paranoid but I feel like the fifth line in the fourth panel may have been altered, maybe so that Bucky says something “tamer” than Darby originally planned. The “THE” at the beginning look genuine, but the rest seems a little different (at least the “E” in there’s was inserted later)..Sometimes the syndication services or the papers themselves alter the strips to fix typos and very occasionally to avoid controversy. According to Wikipedia, the Get Fuzzy strip of May 13, 2005 appeared altered in most papers of the Boston area to avoid a reference to a specific sportscaster.

I don’t know where this is coming from, it just trapsed through my mind and the rest of me went….OK. Bucky is right. Snacks are needed and should be part of any agreement.
