when I was a kid, an old usher in church used to hold babies for moms when they went to communion. I remember him dropping a baby on the marble floor. Np permanent damage, but it still makes my cringe…..
I learned how to hold a baby at the age of 9. My sister (19-years older than me.) had a baby then. 23 years later I have 5 nephews and 3 neices. No kids of my own (yet)
Good heavens! Elly’s statement about having “forgotten” how to hold a baby when Lizzie is still so young has me at a complete loss for words! Unbelievable . . .
Just remember, you have to support the baby’s back,neck, and head. My mother didn’t like for me to hold babies either and she would embarass me if I tried to pick one up by yelling to put it down. When my daughter was born, Mom drove me nuts yelling at me to hold her head. But I learned and it was all natural to me when I had my two sons.
Having my 4 in 5 years, they all learned to help with anything they were able (their dad was never any help)- never even changed a diaper, while I was prewashing all of them in the toilet (even the diaper service required that). I also hand washed all their other little clothes and made the dressy ones. My X wanted all his stuff ironed, even skivvies!

I have a rule, that when visiting someone to see a new baby, acknowlege the older ones first – don’t ignore them.

I felt like that when I had grandchildren. Couldn’t seem to get that little arm into the clothes without twisting it.

My youngest will be 50 in 3 years but even though I have not lived close when grandkids were babies, I still remember how to hold them.
