The whole point of fishing is to do nothing, but look like you are.

Calvin baited Hobbes, but Calvin ended up falling for it hook, line and sinker.

I guess the Key People aren’t too bright, are they.

Calvin is right and since Hobbs is a stuffed animal, Calvin must have wanted to go for a swim!

Go home and explain to your mother that the reason you are all wet is because your “stuffed tiger” pushed you in the creek. Let me know how that one flies.

Since our commenter Hobbes hasn’t mentioned it, I’ll point out: note the pads on Hobbes’ hands. Bill Watterson originally put them there to remind us that Hobbes’ hands were really paws, but he later decided that hands are too expressive to be cluttered up with black pads on them. In later strips you still see the pads on his feet, but not his hands. How ’bout that for a useless bit of trivia? :-)

Calvin looks so cute on panel 2! And Hobbes is convinced Calvin is going to be very very happy and excited.

Calling fishing a “sport” is preposterous! Unless you also consider breathing a sport…

I have to mention also that the water splooosh! is one of the most detailed I remember seeing in a comic.

I love Calvin & Hobbes and Peanuts, but I find it a sad commentary on the state of comics today that those two are ranked #1 and #5 in readership on this site. Not that I think there are any shows on TV right now to compare to the old classics, but imagine if MASH and Star Trek reruns were the #1 and #5 ranked shows on TV today.

Bored no more . . . soaked — yes. But bored? Definitely not!

With Hobbes around, Calvin needs to be more careful about what he wishes (out loud) for because Hobbes isn’t just a thinker . . . he’s a doer!!!!! ;-)
