@ Kreole, yes, some people take their cats to groomers. In hot climates, those long haired cats really need to be shaved. Best friend’s Persian goes naked in the summer, and likes it. Best anti-shed method for other cats is frequent combing with a comb designed to remove the shedding undercoat. Messy at first, but effective in the long run.

I dunno about that, Simpsonfan…I bathed my cat about twice a year. And when he was moulting he loved to be combed and brushed; I imagine the loose fur itched. It depends on the cat and what they are used to. Living in our extremely hot climate he actually enjoyed the occasional bath, and it helped him cast his heavy coat of fur. He was an albino Siamese. And yes, they shed like mad.
I have a Siamese female and she sheds. My long-haired domestic, not so much. My morning coffee just wouldn’t be the same without them contributing a “floatie” (hair) or two.
An online friend of mine has to have her old cat what she calls pig shaved every so often, because his long hair tangles and knots and mats very badly and he will not let anyone comb or brush him. The pictures of this cat with a shaved body and a head full of long hair are priceless, esp. because this cat’s facial configuration results in a permanent pissed off expression.
Yuck! I don’t like the thought of any kind of hair in my food! We have 2 little dachshunds and they shed some mostly in the summer (so they get baths) but year long i keep 1 of those big sticky lint rollers in every room of the house (and in the truck too lol) and use them to roll the dogs and myself!

Do cats ever get groomed (hair cuts) like dogs get? If not, why not? Surely it would help reduce cat hair in the house.
