When I was a kid, talking back to my mother would mean a spanking.Moms favorite weapon of choice. A leather belt across a bare backside.

I missed the ? in the first panel and thought they’d claim they cleaned up and now they’re back to normal play mode.

@GregCravensBTW what time do the “colorists” come around? Some of the strips I don’t see in color until the afternoon. Those two guys must keep really busy what with 300+ strips to color.

I was 4 or 5 the first and last time I talked back. A wise man need only learn once.

Back in the thirties and forties, it was considered a punchline to have an adult hit a kid- Like in the Katzenjammer Kids, and all the rest, y’know. Not so much any more.

I’m not sure what the problem is with the color- they thought they were going to have it squared away before now.

I’m a pretty mellow mom, but when I get attitude, it ain’t pretty. Mom needs to use her voice of DOOM. It always works for me. Bwahahahahahaaaaa!!

My 12 year old used those exact words the other day to his 17 year old brother…..I thought his brother’s head would explode. It is funny watching them become adults and have that so called child’s logic come back and bite them in the derriere. Every time my 17 year old starts whining about his little brothers attitude and actions, I just laugh and make him watch video-tape evidence of his “jerk years”

London! I used to get such a kick out of seeing that one on the paperwork. I knew a guy that lived up that way part of the year. Been a while since I saw him. Is it still in the paper there? As far as that goes- how many folks in these comments still look at the newspapers?

It’s no kindness to kids to let them talk back to their parents with no consequences. But I don’t see Eddy’s comment as backtalk – more as a misguided experiment in legalities. Worth a scolding and an explanation of why his approach is dishonest.

You’ll have to stay tuned till tomorrow to find out what clever and innovative way Sarah turns the tables on the boys. And Kydex- if all this were going on in the real world, I might include scoldings and explanations, but it’s all written and drawn by adults and for adults, so I therefore leave out the bits that aren’t supposed to be funny.

I distinctly remember back in the late 70’s when I was 15, I suddenly realized that my parents actually had no real recourse if I disobeyed them. From that point on, I made my own rules. My situation was a bit different though. Parents were wildly dysfunctional, and I was already more of an adult than either of them.

It was worth a shot. I’ll try again later. I’m just a little (a lot) curious as to what Sarah is going to do.

and to continue with someone’s earlier post….Toby: You promised I would be the only one.Mom: You can’t prove that!
