Last year we were visiting my wife’s relatives in Berlin (erm, that’s DE not VT). I picked up a couple of puzzle books with German fairy tales. Not Grimm but of Heinrich Hoffmann.“Cute”, I thought. Not really. :-|Ever read Struwwelpeter? Apparently originally called in the 1840s, "Lustige Geschichten und drollige Bilder mit 15 schön kolorierten Tafeln für Kinder von 3–6 Jahren (Funny Stories and Whimsical Pictures with 15 Beautifully Coloured Panels for Children Aged 3 to 6) Seriously warped. I can see why the Germanic peoples were brought up on the straight & narrow on these moral stories.:-|

The queen wanted her disemboweled. The huntsman was supposed to bring back her heart, liver, and lungs. Not only as proof of her death but for dinner as well.

That sounds awfully familiar, I think I may have seen it on a bookshelf in my wife’s childhood room. Hmmm. I’ll ask her in the morn.

The people who complain about video game violence probably only know the Disney version the Grimm fairy tales, King Arthur, and the ancient greek heroes. In the real deal almost all ended badly. Didn’t the little mermaid turn into sea foam while the prince took off with someone else?

Wrong again. How is it that Liba always miss the point?Fairy Tales were meant as teaching devices. They esposed a strict moral code and were meant to help children become strong moral adults. But since libs are completely against morality, they have been against these tales for years…

“Grim” is an appropriate word for the tales the Grimms collected. I was, however, always more interested in their work on language – Grimm’s law and all that.

Bake the little sucker in a pie and show him the REAL Grimm lesson.
