Facebook and other sociopathic media (shameless Non Sequitur plug) sites are killing empathy. Why bother talking to a person face-to-face when you can just talk to them through a safer, socially sterile electronic medium? Even prominent social scientists who once championed e-communications as a good thing are doing a 180 on their stances after seeing the long-term effects.
