As is often the case, there is an element of truth to what HG says. If government supported care provides health insurance at a lower cost than private insurers, many employers will switch from private insurers to government insurance. And their employees won’t have a choice.
The big lie is HQ pretending that the same situation doesn’t already exist. When my employer switched health insurance from Aetna to Cigna, I had no choice but to accept it, or find another job.
@ HQ: what is that choice, exactly - do use your employer-provided plan or pay full rate for your own? I do not see how the reform will change that. Unless you really think private insurers will magically disappear.
Private insurers need some government competition to keep them honest. It seems to work for me with my medicare and supplemental security blue coverage.
Methinks Ohman actually believes he’ll get to keep making his own medical choices. A small man getting smaller. Then again, Ohman isn’t especially talented (although he did win that award with Couric) and he knows he’ll soon be on the dole.
That is unless some school picks him up to teach something or other to confirm popular prejudices.
Canadians, at least the ones I worked with in Seattle (yeah – they come here for jobs too!) are perfectly happy with mediocre care, as long as everybody gets it. I actually heard that nearly verbatim on 3 or 4 occasions. And if that’s where you’re at, OK, just be honest about it. Lots of Canadians do come down here to be treated, but few American are going north. I’m not saying they aren’t getting what they are paying for, since it cost way less than it does south of the boarder, but it is what it is. Also, I think you can still get some kind of private insurance that covers some extra stuff (at least you could several years ago – I’m not sure if that’s still the case). Hey, we could call ours Cana-care!

I am with oldlegodad on that one. HQ, care to actually provide proof of what you are saying? It seems your reality does not coincide with mine.

And he may have his reasons to believe so. What do you have to doubt him?
