Unfortunatelly too many schools cut back on anything but the football program.

Maybe they should just give in and replace the science classes with Christian mythology classes.

That’s what most American parents seem to want.

Anthony 2816, Let’s change “most American parents” to “a lot of LOUD American parents”, OK.

On Darwin’s 200th birthday, only 39% of Americans claim to believe in evolution, 25% do not believe, and 36% have no opinion. That puts us lower than pretty much every European country (except Turkey) and Japan. The more educated you are, the more likely you are to believe in evolution; the more you attend church (“religiosity,” not the same as being religious, mind!), the less likely. For actual scientists – especially biologists – the percentage believing in evolution is over 99%. Maybe if we got rid of interscholastic sports altogether and focussed on educating kids rather than instilling a “beat the other guy” attitude, we’d be better off.

fennec, I know. Used to teach myself. One year the school budget failed, so they had to do a second vote – the school district said it would have to cancel interscholastic sports if it went to a contingency budget. The same budget passed overwhelmingly. But I can still dream.

motivemagus, Good one. , AAAAND does that tell us anything about why the Republican base does not want the Obama education plan to become law? Ignorance in the citizen is the lap dog of control. The Repub problem is, the citizenry becomes very smart and powerful when they have a leader that does not drool, and sneer, but has real ideas, and treats them as equals, even those who are incapable of recognizing their own ignorance.
