Yes, liberals consistently show empathy to the Republicans by reaching across the aisle and making efforts to consensus even though the GOP is a shrinking minority. The physical orientation of the comic is perfect; all the elephant has to do to save itself is move to the left, with the rest of mainstream society, but it keeps inching ever toward the right, which is inevitable disaster.
He’s about to pull his chain saw out with his right hand to cut the branch. Then he’ll let go and pull his gun with his left to shoot himself in the foot as he falls.
Get those moderate Republicans out there and maybe it will actually be good for the average citizen. Work together for the good of the nation, instead of providing a blood spectator sport that gives Rush his millions.
The largest corporations run the country anyway; all the politicking, Republicrats and Demicans, is show business to distract us from the little man behind the curtain.
For the really paranoid (even paranoids have enemies!): Blackwater - er, Xe - will be along to collect dissidents any day now. KBR has already built the camps.
DamelcyStare, the elephant has already fallen!
The sad fact is it does not help the American public… we do need more than a one party system, but the GOP have screwed up BIG TIME and can’t even confess on how & where other than stating “we acted like Democrats”. The GOP has to change course to think up new ideas, but will it?
DameIcyStare, I have no desire to live in a one-party state from either side of the aisle – though the GOP did their best (remember, the “permanent majority” was a Rovian idea). But the GOP has to figure out something better to do than roadblocking an eminently qualified candidate. There is plenty of legitimate moral and political ground they can stand on in the history of conservatism – why don’t they take it?
PeterGrt: Yes, for quite awhile now (because of the rancorous partisanship) I’ve been thinking of King Solomon’s solution to the two “Mothers” of the contested newborn. (Remember they both gave birth on the same night but one was still born, and that mother claimed the other’s child as her own). “Take a sword and cut the child in half, and give each claimant a piece of the dead child. The “Mother” that was awarded the child was the one who gave up the claim rather than see the child die.
Dale Hopson and motivemagus: I wouldn’t confuse politics with “truth”. The reason we have politics is because you obviously think your side has superior truth claims. Same for me…it’s where I disagree with my side, and for other people, where the opposition can gain political strength. But , i believe the other side is necessary too (like you); but, the main focus of politics is trying to convince people that the other side is irrelevant.
And after seeing the Libs in action , making policy again for the last two years- it’s obvious to me that the Libs need a political-wallop every once in a while more than the Repugs need it. Anybody in your party live in the real world?
DameIcyStare, the difference between Liberals and the neoconservatives is that one of us is willing to compromise and discuss, and other isn’t, and prefers to insult instead. As you did. I’ve lived in the real world all my life, thanks. Liberals haven’t been the ones ignoring the environment and deregulating every business.
“Save the Planet”, “Beware the Multi-national Corporations”
The sad thing is that responsive, reasonable government will answer to the whims of the nut-bags; instead of truly helping the needy - which is the enlightened middle-class which serves as a palliative effect on cultural chaos for the whole planet even more assuredly than your Amazon Forest serves as a “heat-sink” for “dangerous” CO2 emissions.
I can think of two slogans more valuable than yours:
“Beware the disappearing American Middle-class” & “Save the Upright and Honest”.
Methinks, Q-tip, aka, dameicystare, is indeed the No-fear pup. For some reason he enjoys changing his name and atavar. As far as empathy goes, it is important to be able to experience it lest one becomes a sociopath.
The Democratic Party is so wonderful: They went to war to free the slaves; they started the National Park System to preserve the environment; they overwhelmingly voted for Johnson’s Civil Rights legislation; they tried to stop US entry into Vietnam; they worked with Clinton to balance the budget; and most interestingly, the last time they were in complete control they got us 21% prime rate.
Thank you Peter! I do appreciate hearing the other side every once in a while; you’ve helped me maintain my sense of sanity for one more day ;^) . The libs make a formidable block here. It seems you Libs do not believe in impartiality…I don’t think you’ve addressed this part of your philosophy yet. Is this in the Constitution or something you have just come up with on your own? And if this is the case - why should anyone trust you? Is there any other parts of our Constituted Republic you do not agree with? Like freedom and equality? Equal representation under the law? The pursuit of happiness? How about a Constitutional Amendment to reform the Judiciary? They’re lawyers, they should be smart enough - and we know they get paid enough to actually be obliged to do something useful while they are in Congress.
Yes I am the NoFearPup/DameIcyStare, I would tell you how I do it ; but apparently it’s a big secret. Hint: Go to your profile page, make changes. If its wrong; then tell me why- on the internet, where you should be as anonymous as possible- gocomics has a place for your name that replaces your sign on I.D.?
