A mere 2,500 people rolled out in New York. Big deal. You get more than that for some parties. There were actually counter-protestors asking to be taxed – for marijuana. Clever on NORML’s part, eh?
“Split the difference and you have an accurate count.” That would assume that all parties are making fair estimates. If the cons estimate 100,000 and the libs, 1000. It does not imply that an accurate number is 50,500. It may mean that there were 10,000 just as easily. This is the “every opinion is equally valid” point of view and is spurious at best.
You know what’s funny about these tea party protests (beyond the name they’re using)?
These protests showed up sometimes in majority African-American communities (“black communities” if you don’t like that term) and got a vast-majority Caucasian (“white”) protest.
We’re not deriding the right to assemble, we’re deriding the idiots who happen to be assembling! They can assemble all they want, but there don’t seem to be all that many of them.
There are indeed ways to estimate crowds accurately, but the Park Service no longer uses them because everyone got mad at them for being accurate (i.e., lower than what they claimed).
Rush is on a lot of small station, because they give the program away free.
While he claims the right, Rush is wrong, his “facts” rarely check out, just like O’Reilly, Hannity, and Beck.
In Portland, Or, the “tea party” had a few folks with signs, and the next day, the same area was swamped by people for a Trailblazers rally.
Maybe Rush would do better with basketball than golf?

In the western Pa small city closest to me a couple hundred tea baggers showed up. This was similar to anti Obama groups during the election campaign.

“The left derides the first amendment right to free assembly when that assembly causes the left fear.”
We’re deriding the first amendment right to free assembly? The tea parties are causing us fear?!
Wow. What color is the sky on your planet?

The closest tea party to my area was 30 miles away and I was sleeping :) Great way to make a statement, isn’t it?
