Either, or. They get so much money from the electorate they should have to kow-tow to their communities… Can’t have it both ways, Libs. Oh, and never, never cut an electrical cable with scissors…
Andy, and any other conservatives who had a problem with the president speaking to the children… get bent.
Federally funded schools had no business not airing the speech. He is the president like it or not.
I don’t think it had much effect though, most kids probably couldn’t tell you what he said anyway.
Irish, I’m amazed when I hear the conservatives talk about
”opening the insurance industry to across the board competition in all states”
you do know that insurance cos. have every right to do that now, as long as they comply with each state’s laws …. insurance cos. CHOOSE not to do business in some states because they don’t like the state laws and won’t comply
Your argument (and those that argue the same) is to have the federal govt. usurp state’s rights by eliminating their state laws
that’s not usually considered the conservative view since conservatives argue for state rights on a wide range of other issues, and shows that the commitment to states rights over fed. decrees is apparently decided on a topic by topic basis. It’s hypocritical.
c555, having school children listen to the President of the United States talk about the value of education “destroys liberty” … guess Reagan decimated liberty when he talked about gun control and trickle down economic theory based on cutting taxes for the wealthy

Reagan’s speech was broadcast into schools nationwide.
Reagan also took questions from students …. imagine the firestorm if Obama had tried to do that
church, thank you … I didn’t know that … is it online, do you know?
Tigger yes, schools always have that option for any president. I just heard about an entire school district in Texas that opted out of obama’s speech but bussed their kids to a Bush 43 speech. (Saw it on Headline News, haven’t had time to find print story)
BCS- Arlington Texas is the one bussing the kids to hear football heros and Bush at Cowboy stadium, but refused to let them watch the President. (Rick Sanchez on CNN carried it)
Much as I despise W (for MANY reasons and his actions) I felt he had the right in this country to be shown respect for the office when he appeared, or spoke in public (those rare occasions). The contempt and idiocy coming from “repug” sources today is beyond the pale, and anyone so filled with hate should either leave Congress, or this country. Freedom of speech does NOT include libel or slanderous statements, such as those flooding the press and airwaves in opposing our current President of the UNITED States of America.
Those who are truly “conservative” should be the MOST DISGUSTED by the outrageous false claims and contempt for the Constitution.
dtroutma, thanks, I’ll look on CNN online later for the story
yes, I would like to see all Americans disgusted by this incredible level of disrespect to this president shown during a joint session of Congress to hear him speak.
I’ve heard some folks commenting on air “hey, it’s free speech, so what?,” and I imagine these folks would have been calling for an arrest if any member of Congress had yelled the same thing about Bush.
I heard one commentator last night describe the atmosphere of the address last evening as “bringing the town hall syndrome to the floor of Congress.”
There is NO justification for his behavior. He should be censured by the House because he abused the rules and conduct of the House.
and his excuse that it was “spontaneous” is the exact kind of drivel the right usually accuses the left of spouting
